SLAVERY AND SLAVE TRADE IN NIGERIA

A BOOK LAUNCH

Mr. Abdullahi Muku, Director-General of the National Gallery of Art (NGA) was among the dignitaries present at a Book launch organised by the Culture department of the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture & National Orientation.

The Book titled: “Slavery and Slave Trade in Nigeria: From the Earliest Times to the Nineteenth Century” is a compendium of contributions from eminent Nigerian Scholars on indigenous Slavery and Slave Trade. The Book which was edited by J. E. Ade Ajayi and Okon Uytapublication is a fallout from the UNESCO Slave Route Project.

The event which held on the 9th of May 2011 at the main hall of the United Nations building was chaired by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; ably represented by Barr. Yakubu Abdullahi, Special Assistant to the Vice President on political matters. Other dignitaries present are: Alh. Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, Hon. Minister of Tourism and National Orientation;
Alh. Ibrahim Mahe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry; Mr. Hassan representing UNESCO; Maria Susan Pete, Ambassador of Argentina to Nigeria; and Chief Executives of Culture Parastatals of the Ministry.
