ABDULLAHI MUKU APPOINTED SUBSTANTIVE DIRECTOR GENERAL NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART.

The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Abdullahi Muku as the Director General of the National Gallery of Art.

Until his appointment Alhaji Muku, was acting Director General of the Agency following the suspension of the Director-General, Chief Joe Musa in 2009.
The confirmation came after the expiration of the 4 years tenure of the Director-General Chief Musa in 2011.

The 44 years old Alhaji Muku, who hails from Wamba Local Government Area of Nassarawa State, is a professional administrator and human resource strategist.

 He has his first degree in sociology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1990, in the year 2000, he obtained his masters degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The newly confirmed Director General was transferred to the National Gallery of Art in 1993 from the Federal ministry of information and culture, where he worked as the information/planning officer II.

It would be recalled that between 2009 and 2011 as acting Director General, he embarked on some enviable programmes with the intention of taking the visual art sub-sector to higher level.

These include African Regional Summit and Exhibition on Visual Art (ARESUVA) 2009 edition; National Gallery of Art National Symposium on Nigeria Visual Art 2009 edition hosted by Yaba College of Technology, Yaba Lagos, International ArtEXPO, Nigeria 2010 edition, held in Lagos and the National Gallery of Art National Visual Art Competition 2009 and 2010 edition both held in Abuja.


Others are: Photo Exhibition to mark Nigeria at 50 independence anniversary, art exhibition to mark the Zaria Art School at 50 celebrations and Art EXPO, New York 2010 edition and Darkar Art Biennial, 2010 edition aimed at exposing Nigeria art to international world for foreign revenue earnings.

It is interesting to note that Abdullahi Sabo Muku, has been a part of the management of the National Gallery of Art since interception in 1993; rising through the rank by dint of hard work, determination, evaluation of issues and the display of intellectual vigour in the conduct of organisational process and procedures.

Alhaji Muku, has spent the better part of his life in the promotion and administration of the Visual Art sub-sector and he has undoubtedly contributed immensely towards the upliftment of art and culture in Nigeria.

He is married with children.
