
The Management of National Gallery of Art, Nigeria led by Abdullahi Muku, the Ag. Director-General visited Tate Modern and Tate Britain in April 2010 for a series of meetings on areas of possible collaborations between the two organizations. The visit was part of National Gallery of Art’s desire to forge enduring partnerships worldwide with professional organizations involved in the business of visual arts administration and management, in a bid to strengthening the Nigerian visual arts sector. Issues discussed include capacity building,exchanges,exhibitions etc.The NGA delegation were taken on tours of the exhibition halls, stores and other intrinsic parts of the Tate Group. Of special interest were the design of the Tate Modern edifice originally built and operated as a power station before it’s conversion into a museum of modern art; the library at Tate Britain; exhibition halls at both Tate Modern and Tate Britain; the stores and the conservation studios. The delegation also visited exhibitions of two artists taking place at Tate Modern and Tate Britain:
Chris Ofili (a Nigerian British artist currently living and working in Jamaica)

It is believed that the experience and information garnered by the team will be valuable in the repositioning effort of the Management of the National Gallery of Art, Nigeria. The delegation to Tate Modern and Tate Britain was made up of the Ag.Director-General, Abdullahi Muku; Mr Titus Akusu (Ag.Director, Curatorial Services); Mrs. Ngozi Adamu-Ibrahim (Assistant Director, Protocol); Mr. Eze Obizue (Assistant Chief Curator) and Professor Patrick Linus Akpan (Member NGA Board).
