NGA'S EXHIBITION @ DAK'ART 2010 BIENNALE. |

The event was opened by the Director-General on behalf of the Nigerian Ambassador to Senegal, who could not perform the function because of the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua, whereby a national morning was declared. The event though, low keyed was witnessed by dignitaries such as the Nigerian Ambassador to Senegal, the Ghanaian Ambassador to Senegal, Dr. Kunle Filani, Provost of the College of Education who also was one of the curators of the Dak’art main exhibition and other accomplished Nigerian artists, Scholars and art critics. The Nigerian contingent, invited guest and visitors were adorned with T-Shirts and face caps in the green white green colours of our country; adding colour to the occasion. Also remarkable in this year’s celebration of Nigeria’s Day was the serving of Nigerian cuisines such as eba, pounded yam, tuwon shinkafa, egusi and vegetable soup and the fact that nothing remained afterward, meant that they were well received.

The National Gallery of Art (NGA), Nigeria’s exhibition; one of the OFFs at the Dak’Art Biennale 2010 opened on the 7th of May 2010 coinciding with the opening ceremony of the Dak’Art main exhibition. The venue of the Exhibition was the Ecole Nationale De Formation et Touristique at the Cheikh Amala Sy, 2 Avenue Albert, BP, Dakar, Senegal. Nigeria’s contingent was led by Mr. Abdullahi Muku, the Ag. Director General of the National Gallery of Art and included top officials of the Agency and Six (6) Nigerian artists, whose works were exhibited. Nigeria’s presentation at this edition of the biennale was unique and a departure from the usual exhibition of art works by presenting Installation arts and photography. However, the formal opening ceremony of Nigeria’s exhibition was done on the 9th of May, 2010 alongside the Nigeria Day celebration.
